The difference between good wine and excellent wine starts in the vineyard. Our manual system of viticulture follows a philosophy which reflects tradition and respects the vine. Thus, we can restrict yields in order to produce more distinctive wines with a better sense of terroir.

We practise sustainable agriculture as far as we can. In both our own vineyards and those we rent, we prune in a traditional way, plough, green harvest and thin out the bunches where necessary. We use no herbicides or systemic treatments which could interfere with the growing cycle.

Plant cover
The cultivation of plant cover is new in Galician viticulture, taking the form of a carpet of specially chosen grasses and leguminous plants. It is a natural way of encouraging competition in overly fertile soils and helps prevent erosion on the steeper slopes.
We began this practice in 2001 as an experiment at the Pedrouzos estate, with exceptional results. Today, we have extended its use to all the vineyards and are working to develop the best kind of plant cover to maintain the biological chain, restore the ecosystem, and restrict the natural vigour of the vines.

The original Godello clone
Thanks to Pedrouzos, our estate at Portela, we have been able to confirm the origins and continued existence of a grape which is indigenous to our vineyards. The potential and particularities of the original Pedrouzos clone decided us to graft this old variety onto rootstock throughout our new vineyards.

These ancient vines have preserved the genuine character of the grape throughout the years, giving our wines a unique character which is quite different from those Godellos made from other clones.
