The vineyards are planted on widely differing soils, thereby contributing to the very varied landscape. Valdeorras is a small denomination where the greatest concentration of slate quarries can be found in the municipalities of Carballeda and Vilamartín.

The vines belonging to the winery itself are planted on south-facing slopes from where traditionally the finest quality grapes have always come. The wines are aromatic, with a mineral character. Most soils have evolved from metamorphic rock with variable quantities of organic material depending on the exact location. The ph ranges from lightly acidic to neutral.
The soils are poor in phosphorous and potassium but contain reasonable levels of magnesium although some sites are deficient in oligoelementals. Calcium is more abundant here than anywhere else in Galicia or El Bierzo and its presence pays dividends.
